This report includes statistical data and analysis of the Japanese man-made fibre and technical textile industry under the following headings: man-made fibre production and consumption in Japan; man-made fibre consumption for technical textile applications in Japan; and production of technical textiles in Japan. It also includes an outlook for the Japanese technical textile industry and contains a wealth of recently released data for 2022. Overall, man-made fibre production in Japan declined in 2022 to its second lowest level on record. In particular, there were declines in synthetic filament yarn production and synthetic staple fibre production although there was a rise in cellulosic fibre production. Mill consumption of man-made fibres for industrial textile production in 2021/22 increased but was at its second lowest level for several years, and consumption of fibres for tyre reinforcement in 2022 declined to its fourth lowest level since 2001. Meanwhile, nonwoven fabric production fell to its lowest level since 2009, spunbonded fabric production fell to its third lowest level since 2010, and production of industrial textile goods fell to a record low.
