This report includes statistical data and analysis of nonwoven fabric production in Asia during 2020, and provides detailed data for China, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan. In addition, the data are broken down by the type of nonwoven fabric produced, including: chemical bonded; thermal bonded; needlepunched; spunlaced; spunbonded and meltblown; other dry-laid; and wet-laid. China was Asia's largest producer of nonwoven fabrics in 2020, and production in the country was up compared with the previous year. There were also increases in nonwoven fabric production in South Korea and Taiwan. In India, Indonesia and Japan, however, nonwoven fabric production was down. The most important category of nonwoven produced in Asia in 2020 was that of spunbonded and meltblown nonwoven fabrics. Overall, nonwoven fabric production in Asia shot up in 2020 after rising steadily each year between 2010 and 2019. Looking to the future, nonwoven fabric production will continue to grow at a healthy pace. Admittedly, the COVID-19 pandemic has put a dampener on growth in certain end use markets but the market for personal protective equipment (PPE) surged in 2020 and strong growth was seen in the market for wipes. Furthermore, demand for PPE and wipes is expected to be maintained at a heightened level in the short to medium term.
