A number of Sri Lankan apparel manufacturers have shifted to the higher end of the market by focusing on product niches such as lingerie while implementing "green manufacturing" methods and making products with lower carbon footprints. In this report, the managing director of MAS Intimates and a director of MAS Holdings, Dian Gomes, discusses how apparel manufacturers can benefit from "green manufacturing". He also offers his view on MAS Intimates' strategy of moving towards the manufacture of higher value products in order to remain competitive against companies in Asia following the loss of duty-free access to the EU Market under GSP+ in August 2010.
