Europe's Main Corporatewear Markets: Forecasts to 2010

This report focuses on changing trends between 1992 and 2000 in six of Western Europe’s main corporatewear markets - Belgium, France, Germany, Netherlands, Scandinavia and the UK - and provides forecasts for these markets to 2010. Analyses are also presented of the markets for corporatewear in Italy, Portugal and Spain.

Garment sales increased sharply during 2000 in most markets, although sales are forecast to return to more normal levels. Nonetheless, the long-term prospects are for market growth, accompanied by changes in product groups, sourcing, supply and distribution.

The European corporatewear market is going through significant changes as demand grows for less formal and more fashionable clothing. Also, the market is highly competitive and offshore sourcing continues to increase as manufacturers try to reduce costs. At the same time, mergers and acquisitions have led to larger and financially stronger companies which are able to expand internationally and target specific market sectors.

Changes are also occurring in the supply process, as corporatewear manufacturers take into account individual buyers’ needs - whether this involves the simple ordering of stock via e-commerce or providing complete contract management. Furthermore, technological development is enabling companies to provide a faster and more reliable service to their customers.
