Phil Smith is the Managing Director of Hoshin, Data Hoshin and Studio Hoshin – companies based in Manchester, UK, which provide data and software products to UK Government agencies.
As a result of Hoshin’s work he has addressed world leaders on skills and supported Turkish and Bosnia Government Departments in EU accession. He is also a Director of Jakarta based PT Multi Interdana and is currently supporting Indonesian provincial governments and regencies in economic development, including place marketing. Within eastern Indonesia these projects normally also involve clean energy production. For example, in Papua he is currently working on a feasibility study of producing ethanol, and then electricity, from sago. His Indonesia partners are engaged in community-based and ethical mining projects, where he will become increasingly involved.
Prior to starting Hoshin, Phil was a Director of the UK’s largest private market research agency. This followed a career in marketing management and business consultancy in the UK, the Middle East and North America. In addition, Phil has been a faculty member of Manchester Business School and the University of Leicester. At Manchester Business School he wrote and edited the publications from the Centre for Business Research, mainly focusing on product markets and analysis. Phil has also written extensively on a variety of management topics including a number of books on retail marketing and authored MBA eLearning modules for a number of prestigious Universities.
